Schenectady—Anita Smith, died peacefully on August 15th at Ellis Hospital. Anita was born in Passaic, NJ, a daughter of the late Emil and Paula Klys. She worked as an office manager for the Medical Society of Schenectady County for over 50 years. She and her husband Ed were dedicated communicants of St. John the Evangelist church where they both taught Religious Education and acted as Eucharistic Ministers for the church as well as for Ellis Hospital. Anita and her husband Ed taught skiing for forty years at Willard Mountain. Anita and Ed loved traveling together, especially going to the beach and spending many summers along the Jersey Shore, Cape Cod and Maine. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward J. Smith; siblings, Robert James Levens and her sister-in-law, Edna May Levens. Survivors include her niece, Patty Scherzer; and grand-nieces, Kelly and Lauren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anita's memory to the St. John the Evangelist Church Restoration Fund,806 Union St., Schenectady 12308.
