Maureen Genter DeWitt 82, of Schenectdy, formerly of O'Brien Avenue, Rotterdam, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 11, 2015.
Born in Schenectady, a daughter to the late Albert J. and Emma A. Field Genter. Maureen graduated from Nott Terrace High School in 1950 and in 1953 she graduated from The Ellis School of Nursing. She had worked at Ellis Hospital, St. Clare's Hospital and was Director of Nursing at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center from 1980 where she retired from in 2005. Maureen was a member of the Schenectady RN Club where she had served as Vice President; a member of St. Elizabeth Aux #93 where she was past president of the Ladies Drill Team and also a member of St. Gabriel's Church in Rotterdam.
She was passionate about her photography, her loving family and her joy in telling jokes and making everyone laugh.
Maureen was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, William R. DeWitt on June 13, 2012. and her brother Duward Genter.
Survived by her 5 children, Michele (Ronald) DeMatteo, Joanne DeWitt, William (Lisa) DeWitt, Patrick (Sue Pomato) DeWitt, Mary Beth (John) Mantica; 10 grandchildren, Nic and Ryan DeMatteo, Katie Fulton, Andrea Baker, Keri Burns, Sean and P.J. DeWitt, Sarah, Johnny and Carlie Mantica. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady for those who wish to call.
Burial will follow the Mass in Memory Garden's, Colonie.
