Obituary of Betty Nastacie
Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betty Nastacie, 100, passed away peacefully at the Glendale Nursing Home on September 20, 2016.
Betty was born on December 18, 1915 to Dominick and Loretta Palombo in Schenectady and remained in the area for the rest of her life. She was married to her husband, Jack in 1940. When Jack joined the Navy at the beginning of WWII, Betty and her daughter moved in with her mother and father while Jack served his country. Upon Jack's return, they resumed their life together and had two more children. They eventually bought a home where the raised their three children. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker taking pride in her vegetable and flower gardens. She made the best eggplant!
Betty lived a full and active life for most of her 100 years. She walked daily, tended her gardens and even jumped rope for exercise. She was an avid NY Yankee fan. She did not slow down until she had a hip replacement when she was in her 80's. In her 90's she moved into Heritage Home for Women. She enjoyed her life at Heritage and formed some wonderful friendships. In July, 2014, Betty's health began to decline and it became necessary to move to Glendale. Because her twin was already at Glendale, it was arranged for Betty to get a room near her which helped them resume a sisterly bond. While at Glendale, she was loved and knew it. The family greatly appreciates the staff on Pine Plains North and thanks them for their compassionate care. The family is also grateful to the Hospice staff and its volunteers at Glendale who comforted us and eased Mom's passing.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jack; twin sister, Anna Zellmer; sister, Minnie Buono and brother, Nicholas Palombo. She is survived by her daughter, Loretta O'Sullivan of Niskayuna; her son Frank Nastacie (Linda) of Charleston, SC and her daughter Rose Singleton (John) of Brunswick, NY. She is also survived by grandchildren Karin O'Sullivan, Kelli O'Sullivan, Kevin O'Sullivan, Nicole Nastacie, Darrin Nastacie, Lucas Singleton and Adam Singleton together with great grandchildren Molly Nastacie and Christopher Nastacie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 2216 Rosa Road, Schenectady, NY 12309. Family and friends are invited to call from 11am-12 noon at the church before the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 100 Kings Road, Schenectady, NY 12304.
