Daniel Silva, father of two, grandfather of four and great-grandfather of three, has moved on peacefully. He was 88.
A native of Cambridge, MA, he and wife Lorraine moved to Schenectady in the 1950s for his work at General Electric. He was captain and quarterback of his high school football team at Rindge Tech, a Marine and graduate of Boston University - Dan and Lorraine married at the B.U. chapel. They lived on Central Parkway for almost 60 years, and were particularly fond and proud of the Rose Garden. They raised two sons, Mark and Steven - the younger lost in a work-related accident at 33. Lorraine, a retired nursery school teacher at Trinity Methodist Church, passed away at 80, in 2009. An avid tennis player - singles-only until his mid-80s -
Dan was blessed with an early retirement from G.E., where he managed the manufacturing of large steam turbine generators for most of his career. He carried his tennis racquet to Vero Beach, Florida, each winter, and made lasting new friends.
He is survived by son, Mark, of Alexandria, VA, and wife, Nina; grandson, Dylan Silva, in Los Angeles; granddaughter, Lisa Silva and great-grandson, Noah, in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and in Niskayuna, daughter-in-law, Eileen Silva; grandson, Christopher Silva and wife, Leslie and their twin sons, Henry and Michael; grandson, Gregory Silva and wife, Elizabeth.
There will be a viewing Friday, 5 to 7 p.m., at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. Interment will be private for family. Memorial contributions may be made to The Rose Garden Restoration Committee. www.jonesfh.net
