Dear Opdyke Family; I am so sorry to hear of Marks death. He was one of my favorite teachers in high school. He was energetic, articulate and really caring. I remember his clear voice and his friendly, witty approach to Spanish. He always gave me the feeling that he repected and cared about me - even when I was at my worst.. I was always so pleased to hear that he sent his regards through my father - Frank Taormina. I know this must be so difficult for all of you and I hope it helps to know he really made a differnce in my life. Peter Taormina - Niskayuna class of 1977

I graduated NHS in 1966. Mr Opdyke and Mr Collins were my French teachers. The teachers we had at NHS were really good. I felt a got a good education there. Prayers are with the family, as I know it is hard to say goodbye to our loved ones. Belief in en eternal afterlife with God gives us hope of reunion. Will keep you in prayer as you deal with the sudden loss.

Mr Opdyke was an inspiration to me as a student at Niskayuna when he was just at the beginning of his career. So much so, that I went off to college to major in French. He was a dedicated professional who taught us to love the French language. My condolences to his family.

Dear Kay and Family, It was a great shock to learn earlier today of Mark's passing. Mark was the 'intellectual' leader of our high school class in Sidney. It will be a much sadder 55th Class Reunion this year for his classmates, and especially for me personally, knowing that Mark will not be with us. We will remember Mark and make note of his passing at our Class Memorial service during the Class Reunion Weekend in July.

I was very sad to hear of Markley's passing. He was a constant presence in my life during our school days in Sidney. Because our names were alphabetically linked we sat next to one another in almost every class for many years. I remember with fondness his kind spirit and brilliant mind. I also will never forget attending a dance with him at the Congregational Church where his father was pastor. My best to the family.
