Obituary of William B. Pomeroy

William B Pomeroy, Jr., a resident of Clifton Park, NY for over 50 years, passed into eternal life on February 12, 2017, after a brief illness.
Bill, as he was known, was born in Schenectady, NY in 1927. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1951. Upon graduation, he joined the General Electric Company (GE) and held various assignments in Apparatus Sales Services, Application Engineering and Headquarters Sales staff work. In 1955, he was assigned as Staff Systems Analyst with responsibility for the design and implementation of data transmission systems. In between these assignments, he served in the Army during the Korean War.
In 1960, Bill was appointed by GE to the position of Manager, Data Recording and Transmission, for Advanced Information Systems, which successfully developed GE's first voice-com system, later referred to as Dial-com. In 1963, he was assigned as special project manager in General Electric Computer Division in Phoenix, AZ. Upon completion of that assignment, he was named Manager, Corporate Telecommunications and Information Processing Operations and continued to hold various senior corporate staff positions until his retirement in October 1988. Beyond this, he had numerous other professional accomplishments, among them (1) serving on the Board of Directors of the International Communications Association and later being President of that organization in 1988 and 1989; (2) serving as a consultant to the Reagan Administration Executive Loan Program with consulting responsibilities to the Executive Branch; (3) serving as a member of the United States Department of State concerning issues regarding Telecommunications Policy for the Organization of Economic Corporate Development in Paris, France in 1986; (4) participating as a member of the Professional Advisory Committee on Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at SUNY College of Technology, Utica, NY from 1986 to 1993; and (5) serving as Chairman of the Board of Associates of the College of Saint Rose in Albany, from 1988 to 1993, and member of Executive Board of Center for Telecommunications Management at the University of Southern California.
Locally, Bill was, with regard to Clifton Park, a Councilman, Vice Supervisor, and Chairman of the Town Ethics Board from its inception in 1989 until his death. He was also a past President of the Ballston Lake Rescue Squad, an EMT, first responder and ambulance driver. Virtually all of his personal life was devoted toward being with his family.
Bill is survived by four sons, Jay (Beth), Dan, Mike (Marybeth) and Trip, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Marycecile, his sisters Betty, Ruth and Alice, and his daughter-in-law, Susan Pomeroy, the late wife of his son, Dan.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial on Friday at 10 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church 569 Clifton Park Center Rd. followed by interment with Military Honors at 12:30 at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM at St. Edward the Confessor Church.
Prior to his death Bill requested that when he ultimately past, donations be made to the Ballston Lake Rescue Squad, in lieu of flowers.
