Obituary of Norman I. Petzold

Norman Irving Petzold 90, of Schenectady, passed away Thursday December 24, 2015. Norman was born in Springfield, MA, a son of the late Max and Elsa Pritzlaff Petzold. He graduated from Education Technical High School in Springfield, MA, in 1944. Norman proudly served in the Army Signal Corps during Korea from 1950 to 1953. He then transferred to the Army reserves from 1953 to 1982 where he retired Sergeant First Class. He joined the apprenticeship program at the Watervliet Arsenal from 1955 to 1958 where he was employed as a machinist for 29 years. Norman was a member of Boy Scouts of America from 1968 until 2005, ADC member of The Order of the Arrow Boy Scouts1937, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Schenectady, where he served as Deacon for seven terms, Trustee/Board of Operations, and Board of Directors, Camp Pattersonville, Inc. Norman was predeceased by his wife Margaret Donna in 1988 and his brother Richard Arthur in 2009. He is survived by a nephew and 2 nieces. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 2, 2016 at 1 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady with Rev. Michael R. Alford officiating and Rev. Kenneth A. McHeard assisting. A calling hour will be held from noon on Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Canton, NY. Memorials in Norman's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 115 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
