SCOTIA-- Alfred H. O'Neill, 91, left his earthly home on February 4, 2013. As he left his loving family by his side, he was immediately ushered straight into heaven to be with his Lord and Creator. Alfred was born in Union City, New Jersey on November 17, 1921, a son of the late Charles and Anna O'Neill. He proudly served his country by joining the Navy in 1942 and fought valiantly in World War II. Fascinated with life and all of creation, he never stopped reading and learning. Alfred graduated from Houghton College in 1952 with a degree in Biology. He received two master's degrees from Temple University and Union College. Following his college education he went on to teach science at Niskayuna High School for 25 years. Alfred was a devoted long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady. Alfred's life was a lifetime of caring for others. He had a gift for being able to talk to anyone on their level and making them feel comfortable. Even at 90 years old, he would make soup for his neighbors and help in whatever way he could. Alfred loved his family tenaciously. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marjorie W. O'Neill; devoted Children, Robert C. O'Neill of Bennington, VT, Linda C Speirs of Mt Laurel, NJ and Colin W O'Neill of Biloxi, MS; adoring grandchildren, Erin O'Neill, Jeremy Speirs and Rachel Walton; loving great-grandchild, Asher Walton. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 12 o'clock PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.). Interment to follow in Park Cemetery, Scotia.
