Niskayuna- Arthur W. Gauvreau, 85, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Gauvreau resided in Niskayuna, NY.
Mr. Gauvreau was born in Watervliet, NY, the son of the late Frederick and Stella Hollowick Gauvreau. He graduated from Watervliet High School in 1942. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College in 1946. Mr. Gauvreau was employed by General Electric Company in the Large Motor and Generator Department as a drafting manager. In 1985 he retired, after 39 years of service.
Mr. Gauvreau is survived by his wife, Paige Stephens Warner, whom he married July 26, 1969; two daughters, Hillary Gauvreau of Waterford, CT and Melinda Stuart (Douglas) of Niskayuna; a step-son, Bradley Warner (Mary Ann) of Charlton; step-daughters Deborah Warner Connelly (Michael) of Niskayuna, Gayle Warner of Sarasota, FL, and Leslie Warner Striebel (Jim) of Corvallis, MT; fourteen grandchildren; Sara Allen Cayce, Rebecca DeGarmo (Zak), Nicholas, Joseph (Aja) and Elizabeth Filardi, Kaitlin and Tyler Connelly, Adam, Tarah and Braden Keiser, Marley and Elise Striebel, Natalie and Carly Warner and two great-grandchildren, Lily De Garmo and Jonah Filardi; brother, Robert Gauvreau (Helen) of Clifton Park; and sister, Rita Fahey of Largo, FL. He was predeceased by his first wife, Estelle Jeffers and his sister, Mary Ellen Gauvreau.
Arthur's love of the arts is reflected in over 30 years of association with the Schenectady Light Opera Company. He served as president, business manager, producer and Board member. He was involved with the Schenectady Symphony as treasurer and office manager. In 1985 he participated in the revitalization of Proctor's Theater.
He was a member of the Western Gateway Coin Club, the Design Club, the GE Drafting Management Association and the local chapter of Singletons. He volunteered at the Regional Food Bank and was a member of the First Unitarian Society of Schenectady.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM.
Burial will be at Noon at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
