Obituary of Ruth F. Varley

Ruth (Fairbairn) Varley of Niskayuna, NY died on April 17, 2015. Ruth was born in Buffalo, NY and after she finished her schooling she worked in the Biology Department at the University of Buffalo. After her marriage she moved to Troy, NY where she worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She later moved to Niskayuna and then to Manaus, Brazil, New York City and Tarrytown, NY before returning to Niskayuna. She was an active community volunteer both in Tarrytown and Niskayuna where she became interested in Literacy Volunteers and tutored and held other responsibilities for over 25 years. She also volunteered her time for the Schenectady Inner City Ministries at the food pantry. Ruth will be remembered for her love of animals, expansive hospitality and her willingness to help others.
Her husband Robert R. Varley pre-deceased her in 1991. Survivors are her cousins Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd W. Swift Jr. of Franklin, NC and their children and grandchildren. Also her Godson Jonathan Peace and his wife Terri of Clifton Park, NY.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY at the convenience of the family.
