Polly Putnam Mathews of Schenectady passed away Saturday August 20, 2011.
She was born in Hudson, New York on October 15th, 1927. She was the eldest daughter of Colonel Stanley Putnam and Barbara Sweet Putnam. She attended St. Agnes High School and Wellesley College, graduating in 1949. She obtained a Master of Library Science from SUNY Albany and worked as a librarian at the Horace Mann School in Schenectady. She was also an author of children's books and stories.
In 1956, she married Richard Lewis Mathews. A life-long resident of Schenectady, she also spent each summer at Sabbathday Point on Lake George.
She is survived by her husband, her three children, Donald, of Burlington Vermont, Robert of London England, and Emily Clark of York Pennsylvania, six grandchildren, and her sister Margaret Gurler of Phoenix Arizona. She was predeceased by her brother Stanley.
A graveside service will be conducted in Rochester, New Hampshire.
