I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Irene's passing. Even though we rarely saw her, I spoke to her several times over this past year when my mother, Aunt Pat was sick. Dear Becky, Bill, Nancy, and John, we are all grieving with you at the passing of Aunt Irene. She was a beautiful person! The times we shared together were some of the most joyful of my youth. She would speak with her young nephews and nieces as though they were peers instead of children, and she was always very encouraging. My mom often recalled the adventures she had with Reen growing up, going to see the opera together in New York at the Met, listening from the standing section in the back since they could not afford a seat. I appreciate her humor and candor, like a breath of fresh air. Riding in your car on one vacation, following my parents' car to a destination, she asked me with a smile, "How can you stand your parents - they're so boring!!", and when the baby started crying in the back seat she would sing him to rest. Uncle Bill reassured me in measured tones for emphasis, "Your father is a good man. A goood maaan." When I heard Aunt Irene and Uncle Bill arguing one time I thought it was the end of the world because I had never seen parents argue before. But they knew how to make up as well or better than they knew how to let off steam. For me it was a lesson in marriage, in forgiveness, and the enduring love they shared. Forgive me for indulging in these childhood memories. We all miss Aunt Irene dearly, and look forward to joining the great family reunion going on above. One in sorrow and hope, Neil
