Dear Family, It is with heavy heart that I write these words of encouragement. Father D. was not just your father but he was mine too. The first time we met that Thanksgiving before you and Kirk were married, I knew that he was special. The wonderful food that he prepared with love and that gentle smile and laugh. He was a humble and wonderful father and grandfather to all of you. He will be greatly missed. It was my pleasure knowing him and I thank you all for sharing him with me. Dear Carol and familly. Word cannot express the devastaion that we feel about losing Dad. Our payers are with you during this grief period and always. We cannot be there with you to hold and consol you but we hope that you know that you can always count on us. From personal experience we know that more though times lay ahead as we learn to live without his physical beeing. On behalf of the DOWDELL FAMILY REUNION I'd like to send our deepest and sincerest condolences to Carol, Joanne, Laverne, Kevin and other immediate family members of Mr. Crawford B Dowdell. One whom we've come to know and love as Cousin CB, respectfully. It was such a shock to hear of Cousin CB's passing. I was excitingly anticipating seeing him this summer during the reunion. There are just some folks you just expect to be around forever. He never missed a family reunion since we begin in 1995, and was a great encourager and supporter of the family reunion. Cousin CB was such a major figure at the Dowdell Family Reunions, such that his absence this year will certainly not go unnoted. We always new when he arrived at the hotel in Americus, GA because everyone would rush over just to speak to him. There was always a crowd around him. I'll never forget the children's faces when I asked him to share about his experiences as a Tuskegee Airmen. Black History before their very eyes, the children were in such great awe of him. What a great man! I'm so honored to say he was a Dowdell and a wonderful, respected member of the Dowdell family at large. He will be missed, but never ever forgotten by our family.

CB has always treated me fairly. He leaves a large hole in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be greatly missed. My heart felt condolences to my baby girl Tamara, LaVerne, Carol, Joanne and Kevin and Etienne.

We had just moved to Millwood, and received a letter addressed to a "Crawford Dowdell", on Rte. 100. Precious and I were total shocked--a Dowdell in Millwood/Chappaqua--impossible. We took the letter to the "other" Dowdell house, and, this began a wonderful relationship with our newly found "cousins". The Crawford Dowdell family became part of our life, for which we have been, and will be, eternally greatful. Crawford Dowdell became part of our life, and we will miss him. Our prayers and sympathy to the Dowdell and extended family memebers.

Kevin, It's been a long time since we've been in touch but I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to you over the loss of your Dad. Both he and your mother were always so proud of you and loved to watch you at the tennis matches. They both always had a smile on their face and were just the greatest people. It was a real privilege to have known them and I will always think of them with a big smile too. I retired from teaching 6 years ago and am now woking at other things. You, Kevin, still go down as the best player I ever coached and certainly the nicest. Would love to see you again sometime and hear about all you have been doing. If you get a chance e-mail me and we can catch up. Again, I'm thinking about you and all your family.
