Obituary of Clara B. Sedgwick

Schenectady- Clara B. Sedgwick, a resident of the Ellis Residential Center,
Schenectady, formerly of Schaffer Heights apartments left her earthly
family to join her Heavenly family on March 20, 2009.
Clara was born on June 1, 1914 in Cornwall Hollow, CT. She was
the daughter of the late Benjamin and Gertrude (Merwin) Sedgwick. She
graduated Pittsfield High School and Berkshire Business College.
She worked 40 years for the General Electric Company in Pittsfield,
MA; in Washington, DC and retired in 1977 after many years at the
Knolls Atomic Laboratory in Niskayuna, NY.
Clara was an active member and Past Matron of the Corlear Chapter of
the Eastern Star and Geroge Hope Chapter.
Clara was a member of Union Presbyterian Church of Schenectady for
over fifty years. She served as a Deacon and was Secretary of the
Women's Association. She also was a member of the Mission Committee,
Associate Chair of the Church Bargain Sales and Secretary for Albany Presbytery Woman's Association.
She was predeceased by her four brothers and two sisters; also by six
nieces and two nephews.
She is survived by six nephews and two nieces; David Shumway of New
Hartford, NY; Thomas Sedgwick, Robert Sedgwick and Merwin Sedgwick of
Dalton, MA; Allyn Hurlburt of Cornwall Hollow, CT; Philip Sedgwick of
Tucson, AZ; Sharron Parzick of La Quinta, CA. and Pamela Penttila of
Hubbardston, MA. Also surviving are numerous great and great-great
nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the Cornwall Hollow Cemetery, Cornwall Hollow, CT
at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Clara's Life on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 1 PM at Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ruth Kuo officiating.
