Scotia - Robert Clair Traxler 86, of Scotia, NY, died at home on February 25, 2010, in the loving presence of his family.
Bob was born in Royal Oak, MI on July 31, 1923. He attended Baldwin High School in Birmingham, MI and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1949 with degrees in chemical and metallurgical engineering. He was a Tech Sgt, in the U.S.Army from 1943 - 1946.
Bob was employed by General Electric Company from 1949 - 1984 when he retired. He was responsible for the development of the process to manufacture fuel for reactors for Seawolf, Triton, Narwhal, Lafayette and Trident class nuclear powered submarines. He was also manager of quality control and plant operations at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.
Bob was an active member of Union Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school and served as an elder and church treasurer. He was also treasurer and a board member of Literacy Volunteers and Samaritan Counseling Center, and a member of GE Elfun Society.
Bob enjoyed fishing, jogging and traveling. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of the arts.
In addition to his parents, Atlee and Helen Traxler, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Betty McCabe.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Fleurette Traxler, his daughters, Pamela (Richard) Spaulding, Deborah (Robert) Grady and Cynthia (James) Albright; 11 grandchildren, Eric (Heidi) Spaulding, Kevin (Shari) Spaulding, Tammie (Al Montoya) Spaulding, Benjamin Schultz, Nathan (Jenny Silberger) Schultz, Marshall (Kristin) Grady, Owen (Andrea Thomas) Grady, Adrienne Chamberlain, Monique (Stephen Mauceri) Chamberlain, Amanda and Jessica Albright; and 13 great grandchildren, Eric Jr., Jayson, Brady, Kayla, McKenna, Avja, Gabriel, Soren, Isaac, Scarlett, Shelbi, Jake and Olivia.
A memorial celebration will take place at Union Presbyterian Church on Saturday April 24, 2010 at 11 AM..
