My dad is a very close friend of Herm. He wanted to share how much he enjoyed sailing with Herm. They were buddies that enjoyed each other's company. They had a standing lunch each week at Red Lobster where they had a waitress that made sure she took care of them each week. She knew by heart their order and so did the bartender! Dad sends his condolence to all the family.
I had Herm over many times for dinner at my house when I had Dad there. We always enjoyed watching football. Herm and I had to educate Dad on football since he only watched it when Notre Dame played. It was a good time for all. Unforunately Herm could never get us to be loyal fans of the Eagles. I will miss those times. My condolences to the family. We are missing Herm.

Herm abides in my memory, as a great friend, manager for whom I was proud to work for at GE, and as an inspiration with his good humor, friendly smile, and ability to be insightful and fair. Sylvia and I enjoyed relaxed times with Herm and Sonia, and he showed good judgment by most often ordering a Reuben Sandwich when we ate at the Edison Club! He was fair in not choosing between Lee Tupper and me when it came to having the (apparently) most unorganized desk in the office. He was able to permit this, even though his desk and most others were quite clean and neat! Herm will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family. Lou Spradlin

I saw Herm's obituary in the paper this morning when I looked for the one for my father. I'm sorry to hear of Herms' passing and your loss. Herm was my manager in the GE Analytical Engineering Operation back in the 1980s, and supported my acceptance and move to a management position in Salem, VA in 1988. He was a very fair, calm, and genteel leader at a time when such attributes were becoming less prevalent in GE management. My time in AEO provided an important foundation for my career, and although I had no further contact with him after we moved, I remember my experience there and Herm's leadership with fondness and thankfulness. Regards, Tom Burns
