Did not learn of her death until MJ contacted me yesterday (Saturday), and it was not possible for us to get to either of the services. But please know our hearts are with you ... and with her. "Oh, Carol, what are you reading now?" That was my usual greeting as we met each other over the years at Thistle regattas. I would seek her out at her van and we would sit for hours talking about our current favorite authors. Carol was so right about Annie Proulx's "The Shipping News"--"She just spits words at you". Such insight and such a zest for life she had, despite her lifelong physical pain and disability. We bonded not only because of Thistles and a love for reading, but also because my mother suffered from the same illness as Carol. I regret my work schedule kept me from regattas in recent years, so I had not known she was failing. My deep sympathy to all the Hudson's and to the Thistle Class, on the loss of an extraordinary First Lady. Pat Hubbell
