Schenectady
Donald G. Devino, 88, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2023 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home.
The family expresses their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to Daughters of Sarah for the professional,
kind, thorough, and attentive care that Don received in his final months.
Don was a 1952 graduate of St. Columba’s High School in Schenectady and a 1969 graduate of
Siena College, earning a Bachelor's degree with a major in English and a minor in French.
He served in the United States Army with the Military Police from 1956 through 1958.
Don retired from Equifax where he was employed as an insurance claims adjuster.
His pastimes included golf, tennis, and bowling. After mentoring his eldest grandson – and then
son – to bowling perfection, Don later achieved what he thought would be unattainable for
himself when he rolled two 300 games in the same year. He also greatly enjoyed listening to
Swing, Big Band, Standards, and Jazz music at home, in the car, and at live concerts throughout
the years. Additionally, he was an avid reader, always consuming every edition of the
Schenectady Gazette/Daily Gazette, and books on a variety of topics, especially biographies and
other non-fiction.
Don enjoyed many summer trips with family to Cape Cod, and “snow-birding” in Sarasota to
escape Upstate New York winters.
Besides his mother Helen Bord and stepfather Samuel Bord, Don is pre-deceased by a brother
Eddie Devino and a sister Betty Wasson.
He leaves his loving wife of 66 years, Geraldine “Gerry” Devino of Schenectady; a daughter
Elaine (Robert) Noel of Schenectady; a son Paul (Marjorie) Devino of Colonie and;
grandchildren: Robert Noel, Laura Noel-Hamilton (Brett), Joseph Noel (Alexis Tasso), and
Nicole Devino; and a great-grandson Kiemon Noel.
Friends of the family are invited to attend a Committal Service with Military Honors, which will
be held at 12 Noon, Thursday, June 15 at Saratoga National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie.
