Schenectady Alma G. Willey, 97, a longtime resident of Baker Avenue passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Schenectady Center surrounded by her family. Born in Schenectady, she was the daughter of Winfred and Eileen Grinter. Alma was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. She helped her husband run Willey’s Bakery for 20 plus years along with raising her family. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and was known as the Grandma of Union St. She was a member of the Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church and Women’s Republican Club. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 47 years Merritt C. Willey (1994), her daughter Muriel Callahan; two sisters Patricia McGovern and Betty Snyder and a brother Ronald Grinter. She leaves behind her son Merritt (Tina) Willey of Niskayuna; 6 grandchildren: Merritt Willey, Theresa (Jessica) Wolk, Melissa (Matt) Dimaina, Justin Callahan, Jeremy Callahan, and Jonathan (Marjorie) Callahan; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Roberta Sargent and Brenda Sabo; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 10 am to 12 pm Wednesday May 3 at Jones Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie. A graveside service immediately following at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Multiple Sclerosis Society. To leave a condolence for the family, please visit www.jonesfh.net.
