Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Rooney
Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth Ann (Beth) Rooney, age 71 of Halfmoon, NY, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023 after years of health issues. She resided at Teresian House in Albany, NY during her last year.
Beth was born on Nov. 24, 1951 in Schenectady, NY to the late Martin Joseph and Betty Lou (Ruhling) Rooney. She leaves behind her brother George Rooney of Scotia, NY; brother Mike & wife Lynda Rooney of Columbia, MD; sister Kathy & husband Ron Nelson of Forest, VA; stepson Robbie Miller of Felton, DE; and 8 nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Shenendehowa Central School in 1971, Beth worked a variety of jobs in accounting and office management jobs in the Albany area while completing several courses at Hudson Valley Community College. She moved to Delaware in 1984 where she worked for 8 years at Holiday Inn as Administrative Assistant to the General Manager. From there she worked several years in the office at Harrington Raceway Midway Slots before returning to Clifton Park to live and work with her mother in Shaklee after her father’s death. She simultaneously worked at Saratoga Casino and Raceway and then later at Hannaford’s as a cashier where she enjoyed tremendously interacting with customers. In those latter years, she took care of her mother until her passing in 2014.
Another of her great pleasures was to cook for family & friends, a gift she learned from her first mother-in-law. She put her skills to good use when she began volunteering in 2004 for her “other family” at the Clifton Park Fire Dept., to include eight years as Auxiliary President. Beth was well known for baking lots of cookies, hiding them in the freezer & waiting to see how long it took the firefighters to find them!
Beth always had a soft spot in her heart for her many furry friends, to include her horse Sweetheart, black lab Missy and cat Prince. May they now all be happily reunited.
A “Celebration of Life” gathering will be held at a later date at the Clifton Park Fire Dept. Friends are welcome to call them at 518-371-8400 for details when they are available. In lieu of flowers, Beth’s family asks that you donate to this or your local Fire Department.
