Schenectady, NY
Jennifer M. Salm, 41, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Albany Medical Center after a long, hard fought battle against autoimmune disease.
Born in San Diego, California, Jennifer spent most of her early years on the West coast before moving to Rotterdam when in elementary school. She was a 2003 graduate of Ellis Hospital School of Nursing. From there she went on to further her nursing education, obtaining a BSN from Excelsior College in 2017, and at the time of her passing, was working on completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
As a nurse, Jennifer was above all dedicated to the care of her patients and providing the best of care and sought additional certifications to further her knowledge. She was a certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN), Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC), and Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN). Most recently she worked as a Nursing Supervisor in the Emergency Department of Albany Memorial Hospital and Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, where she developed a special interest in memory care and a fondness for all of the individuals on her floor. Prior to this, Jennifer worked for the Center for Donation and Transplant, Albany Medical Center, and Ellis Hospital.
When not working, Jennifer and her menagerie of sphinx cats volunteered with the “Reading to Furry Friends” at the Guilderland and Albany Public Libraries, which allowed children with reading and speech difficulties to read out loud to animals and gain confidence in their reading comprehension skills.
Jennifer was pre-deceased by her father, James Salm, and her grandparents John and Elizabeth Walisiewicz and John and Lucille Salm. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Salm, of Niskayuna; her sister, Jamie Salm, of Rensselaer; her partner, Logan Buchanan, of Guilderland; and her aunts and cousins. She also leaves behind several close friends, including Sue McKinstry and Daryle Blackstock; and her beloved pets; Christopher Robin, David and Malachi.
Calling hours will be held from 3:30pm to 6:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00pm Thursday, April 20 at Jones Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie.
