Anne Elizabeth Vines of Glenville, NY passed away on April 7, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. Vines of Glenville, NY, and beloved sister of Deborah LaGarde of Myersville, MD, and David Simon of HackeHstown, NJ. She was predeceased by her father the Rev. Irwin Louis Simon and mother - Vera Taylor Simon. Anne was born June 14, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA. She grew up in Long Island and Ossining NY, and in Edgewater, NJ. She graduated from Leonia High School in New Jersey in 1964, and graduated in 1968 from Baldwin- Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. She earned her MLS degree from SUNY Albany in 1971. Her long career included elementary school teaching in Saugerties, NY, serving as fine arts librarian and children’s librarian at the Troy Public Library, and Library Director of the Gloversville Free Public Library. Anne also worked as Children’s Services Consultant at the Ramapo Catskill Library System and at the New York State Library in Library Services, Youth Services, and the NY State Division of Library Development. She worked in School Library Systems, Youth Services, and was a North Country NYLINE consultant. During that time she edited a compilation of articles titled “Kids Welcome Here! : Writing Public Library Policies that Promote Use by Young People”, and oversaw the design of a library-themed NY State license plate for for the NYSDMV. She also coordinated the New York State Library State Wide Reading Program for many years. Anne was a member of Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honor Society. Anne was a mentor and friend to many of the children she encountered, forming warm relationships that in many cases lasted her lifetime. She encouraged a love of books, education, art, and music in the children she knew. Arrangements are by the Jones Funeral Home, 2020 Central Avenue, Colonie, NY.
