Peggy Spofford, formerly Blount posted a condolence

Our family met Leah at Tupper Lake Ski Area where her mother was a ski instructor. Kathy Blount and Leah were inseparable. She often returned with us to Raquette Lake where we stayed on the weekends since our home was in Pulaski, NY. We always enjoyed her company. So shocked to hear of her passing. My sympathy goes out to all her family especially Kitty, her mother.

My fondest memory of Leah is all about food. Whenever we had family gatherings she would go all out, especially on the baking. She always made everyone feel welcome and right at home. She was especially caring of my kids, her nieces and nephews, whenever she saw them, and her eyes would just light up. She was a warm and giving person, the best sister-in-law anyone could ever have.

I knew Leah as a very kind, giving person. She extended hospitality often to both her own side of the family and ours (Todd, her husband’s family). She always reached out to her in-laws and didn’t hold back on hugs and kisses and verbal expressions of affection towards them.
Whereas Leah was a very passionate and emotional person, cheerful and full of energy, the Oberdick family was much quieter and reserved with expressions of love and affection. Leah may not have fully understood our ways and been disappointed in our subdued response to her. I regret I never went out of my own way to help her to understand our different styles of communication. I wish that the graciousness and free expression she showed towards us was in my own nature to return.
Leah was a wonderful cook, artful decorator, and was capable of making a lot of her own ornamental household items and also giving them as gifts. She even made us a large fabric heat pack filled with rice or dried beans for our aches and pains, which we still use.
I am grateful for the love Leah and Todd had, how they enriched each other’s lives, had a beautiful home, shared great experiences and travels together, and supported each other through thick and thin.
Our deepest sympathy to Todd, Leah’s mother, her children and granddaughter, and her siblings.
Bless Leah for all she accomplished and the love she gave freely not only to family, but the developmentally disabled children she instructed, and animals, not only her own cat Onyx, but the homeless animals at the Humane Society that needed support. Leah was just a giver, not a taker. We should all aspire to those ideals.
Rest peacefully, Leah. You were such a good person.
