Dr. Gerald S Terry (Jerry), Doctor of Optometry, was born June 23,1920 in Schenectady, NY. He died peacefully on December 17, 2021 at the home of his daughter, Elise Bigos , in Stillwater, NY. Jerry, a lifelong Schenectady resident, graduated from Draper High School in 1936, received an undergraduate degree from Siena College and a Doctor of Optometry from Columbia University. He practiced optometry at his business, Moody Optical, in downtown Schenectady for over fifty years. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Petro) Terry and his son, Keith. He is survived by his daughters, Deidre Barber (Dennis McKenna) and Elise Bigos (Peter Mora), six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he dearly loved. Jerry was a baseball fan and a gifted baseball player who played semi-pro baseball from 1938-1946 in the Schenectady Twilight League, Albany Twilight League and NYS League while working at the GE. He was an avid golfer who became a scratch player in his prime. He played at golf courses around the world. Jerry served in the US Army Air Corps as a navigator from 1944 to 1946 .He was a member of the Elk’s Club for 30 years and he was also a member of the Lion’s Club. His most fulfilling activity later in life was being a member of the Schenectady Ole Timers’ Baseball Club (SOTBC) where he made many friends and enjoyed social gatherings. Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday, January 3, 2022 at Jones Funeral Home 1503 Union Street, ( at McClellan St.), Schenectady. Burial with military honors follow at 12Noon at Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Sunday, January 2 at the funeral home.
