Well here I am in Indianapolis today being March 25th 2015, and I think would have been Mom's B-Day, I just learned my Uncle John passed away. Same age as Mom when she passed away in 2010. I am really sorry I was unable to be there, because of the troubles I had in China, and finally got back to the US late last year. Really saddened to hear this. I sent an email to him when in China, but never heard a word, like a lot of emails I sent to never hear anything. Wish to hear from my cousins hopefully such as Cathy, John, and Sara, before I leave the US again, to live in Wales, where Nana's family came from. I am going to raise sheep and make my Electricity Machine. I leave my prayers to the Lord, for him in heaven, and for both to watch over me. God Bless our Family. Love Dom Jermano, aka Ike my email: djermano@yahoo.com my phone now: 317-490-7678

It was so sad to hear about John's passing. John was the first engineer that I worked under when I started my DOT career in 1968. I remember John as a true gentleman, very intelligent and so easy to get along with. He will be missed.

One of my fondest memories is of meeting John and Marty in Whitehall at the beginning of the first succesful NYS Canal Cruise. I worked for Boaterfun magazine and my 10 year old son, Matt, and I were planning to stay with the Boaterfun folks on their boat for the journey to Waterford. We got to Whitehall and met John and Marty on the most beautiful boat I had ever seen. They showed us around and said we were welcome to stay with them for the course of the event. We kindly declined the invite that first day but accepted the 2nd. It was to wonderful to pass up spending time with such sweet, kind, wonderful people. We stayed with them just the one day but became fast friends. I was persuaded by John to become a member of SCOW and proudly joined him at many interesting meetings in wonderful locations around the state. I will miss his wit, kindness and generosity. He had the most beautiful smile and had a way of always making you feel welcome. God speed my friend. Say hello to Marty for us.

There was no more enthusiastic, energetic or articulate advocate for New York's waterways and the communities, businesses and individuals who embrace them. We will miss John's clear-eyed passion, his wit and his friendship. Our condolences to his family. -Peter, Dan, Sarah, Hattie and Libby.

John was a kind, knowledgeable, compassionate, caring, and gentle man, whose enthusiasm and interest in the canal he was always eager to share, along with his engineering skills. I had the pleasure of serving with him on the Bridge of the Lake George Power Squadron, and I treasure the experience. My thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time. Wishing fair winds and following seas.

John and I went to Germany with the Canal Society, and we were the 2 loners, and spent a lot of time together. When Marty died, I drove from Geneva, NY to her wake. He was in awe that I was there. I said "You are my friend". Rest in peace. We have lost a great friend
