Obituary of Blanche C. Gray

Schenectady-Blanche C. Gray, 93 daughter of Thurman and Dorotha (Barker) Christman, passed away on Saturday, September 4th surrounded by her loving family at Ellis Hospital. She is survived by her children, Adrian (Doreen) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Hugh (Martha) Gray of Aurora OH, Matthew (Holly) Gray of Schenectady and Nancy Blair of Clifton Park, her grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Cioto, Sarah (Dave Piatek) Gray, Jeremy (Julie) Gray, Erin Gray, Kate (Kris) Kurjiaka, Natalie Shoemaker, Mackenzie Blair and Zoe Blair. She is also survived by her sister Elsie Roberts and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Claude Christman, T. Gerald Christman and Paul Christman, her husband Adrian Gray, her daughter Jolie Gray and her grandson Robert Gray. She was born Blanche Elizabeth Christman in the Town of Ephratah on June 23, 1928 and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1946. She married the love of her life on June 28, 1952 and was his devoted wife for 66 years until his passing. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a talented cook and quilter. Her fudge and cookies were famous. In 1969 she and her family moved to Schenectady and the city became her home. She volunteered on the PTA, the council for Mont Pleasant development and worked for the Election Board for many years including being Election Inspector Chairperson. She was always active in her church, with the women’s guild and volunteering especially in the kitchen. She had a strong belief in God, Family, and the Yankees. If the Yankees were playing, she was watching. For the last three years she has enjoyed living at Brookdale on Union Street making new friends and never missing a Be Fit class. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Reformed Church of Scotia. Calling hours will be Saturday, September 11th from 4pm to 6pm at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, Schenectady. Covid protocol observed.
