Maria Isabel Torres
“ Maira “
On June 18, 2021, Maria Isabel Torres passed away peacefully at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center. Maria was born on September 5, 1932 in Ceiba, Puerto Rico to parents Agustin Torres and Eulalia Centeno. She was raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
For the past forty eight years, she has made Schenectady her home. Maira’s first thirteen years of employment in Schenectady was in the custodial department at First Reformed Church. Maria worked for Baptist Retirement for five years where she received her certification as a nursing assistant. This is where she discovered her true gift and mission in life. She spent the rest of her working years providing caregiving and companionship to many seniors in their homes.
Maira was a faithful member of First Reformed Church of Schenectady for over 48 years. Her faith was both deep and humble and it helped carry her through difficult times. She often quoted the phrase, “If God keeps his eye on the Sparrow – then I know he watches me.”
Maira was a strong and independent woman who lived on her own until November 2019 when her health declined. The Rimany and Minbioli families would like to thank all of the staff at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center for the kind and compassionate care they provided to our friend, Maira, over the past eighteen months.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 11:00 AM at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, 8 N. Church Street, Schenectady, NY. The Reverend Dr. Daniel Carlson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Maira’s memory to: Catholic Charities Senior and Caregiver Support Services, 1462 Erie Boulevard, 2nd Floor, Schenectady, NY 12305.
