Obituary of Michael F. Jakubowski

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Frederick Jakubowski passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2021. Mike was born in Oakland, California on May 23, 1975 and came to Niskayuna with his family in August of 1976. He attended Rosendale School, Iroquois Middle School, and Niskayuna High School. He achieved a BS degree in Computer Science from Siena College in 2005. Mike lived in northern California with his sister and brother for three years after completing 2 years of college and working as a unit clerk at Ellis Hospital. He returned to Niskayuna and took a full-time job as a residential supervisor at Northeast Parent and Child School in Schenectady working overnight shifts. Mike returned to his education and completed his B.S. degree as a full-time student while working full-time at the Northeast Parent and Child School. Upon graduation from Siena, Mike was employed by the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) as a quality data analyst and then as an Information Technology Supervisor. Skilled in computer hardware and software, he was often called upon to help family, friends, and co-workers with computer problems. Outgoing and friendly with a courteous disposition to anyone he met, Mike was easy to have a conversation with and developed a wide circle of friends. He loved an immense variety of music, food, and entertainment. He was knowledgeable in many subjects. From Grateful Dead concerts to Opera at the Met, from playing a fantasy board game to attending a New York Knicks game, from ancient mythology to current events, from eating at the finest restaurant to hosting a BBQ in the back yard – Mike enjoyed them all and made every effort that those around him enjoyed them too. Proud of his “fund of useless knowledge”, he loved games of trivia. He was an excellent cook, always trying new recipes. He had a particular talent in using spices to make a dish exciting. Exceptionally good with children and adolescents, Mike was loved and respected by the students and the staff of Northeast Parent and Child School. He was a positive role model and always went above and beyond, giving from his heart in support of the students. However, the times you would find Mike with his biggest smile was when he was playing a board game with his nephew, Stash, and his daughter, Arya. Mike was a very kind and helpful person. Active in community service, he contributed his time to a number of service projects including soup kitchens and food banks. Whenever able, Mike always lent a helping hand and did so in a positive manner. More often than not you would find Mike working while singing some song in his rich baritone voice with lyrics all too appropriate for the situation…and you just had to smile. A good-hearted person with the soul of an artist and the spirit of a child, Michael Frederick Jakubowski will be deeply missed by those who met, knew, and loved him. Mike was predeceased by his mother, Gisela C. Jakubowski. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Arya, who is also the daughter of Danielle Vincent. He is also survived by his father, Dr. Michael S. Jakubowski, his sister Susan Jakubowski of Santa Clara, CA, and brothers Stanley (Claudia) of Portland, ME and Christian (CaroleAnn Morrison) of Niskayuna, NY, and his nephew Stash Jakubowski in addition to aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. A Mass of Christian remembrance will be celebrated on July 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish Church, 1803 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12309. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 2501 Troy Schenectady Rd, Niskayuna, NY 12309. Memorial contributions in Michael’s name may be made to Northeast Parent and Child Center addressed to Northeast Parent and Child Center, 60 Academy Rd., Albany, NY 12208.
