I'm very sorry to hear of Alex's passing. I remember him from Rosendale Elementary School. I'm a cook/manager in the kitchen there and worked for many years with Madeline Foley before she retired, and I currently work with Nancy Okonski. I remember Alex when he would come in for lunch. He was always a sweet, polite, kind kid! It's awe inspiring all that he accomplished! My deepest sympathy to all the family!

Tonya, I embrace your support and love you gave to me and my Jacob! I have now been following the strength and love Alex was blessed to be surrounded with! Ironically, my sister worked at Perkins school. Somehow our lives were meant to be together. I know that our warriors fought with such courage, perseverance, love and strength ❣ I would like to share what we wrote in Jacobs celebration of life;

Blind school was so sad to hear of Alex passing. There were many stories from staff and students. I remember him and Jeremy practicing so hard all the time. My favorite story was the day he asked me to try to high jump. Well, i showed him a simple 3 step approach and jump off his left leg. So the rubber bar was at 3feet 6 inches and he really cleared it with room to spare. After several jumps he never missed and had jumped well over 4 feet. In a very honest way, Alex always raised the bar in everything he tried once he got a new task mastered. He was one of greatest movitated people ever .

It was my honor to have had the opportunity to serve as Alex's principal while he was a student at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. He was a great student and a fine young man. I am so very saddened to hear of his passing. I enjoyed his personality and talents while he was a student here at SCSDB. When he joined sports, is when I really got to know Alex and let me tell you....what a determined young man he was. He excelled in everything, he knew what it took and he put the work in. Alex was an inspiration to his peers and everyone loved him.

We lived across the street from Alex and his family in South Carolina. The first time I saw Alex, he was racing down the street on his bike with his sister. He was fearless! My husband and I became close friends with Darrin and Tonya. Alex and I shared a love of horror films. I remember spending a Saturday watching horror films and eating popcorn. He was an awesome, independent, loving person. I loved how Ashley always referred to him as “Brother”. We feel truly blessed that Alex touched our lives. Our hearts are aching for our dear friends. We know how precious Alex was to them. He definitely was our Hero. God bless you, Alex....rest in peace...❤️❤️❤️
