Obituary of Joyce Y. Mason
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Yarrow Mason, 76, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at St. Peter's Hospital Hospice Inn, Albany, NY after a terminal illness.
She was born on October 31, 1938 in Long Island, NY. She was the daughter of the late George and Alice Yarrow. She was a graduate of Courtland State College, NY, class of 1960.
Joyce was a resident of Montvale, NJ from 1963-1985. She moved to Greensboro, NC in 1985 and retired as a microfilm clerk from Guilford Mills. When she retired, she moved to Wilmington, NC. There she made exceptional friends and enjoyed going to the beach and being a spectator at beach volleyball tournaments.
Joyce was the mother of Douglas (Leah) Mason of NY, David (Kathy) Mason of NJ, and Roy (Katie) Mason of MI; Nana to Matthew, Molly, Justin, Sarah, Kyle, Jaiden, and Luke Mason and Step-Nana to Bryce Houpt; Beloved sister of Jane (Edward) Montesi of NC; Aunt to Debbie (VerDon) Hoopes of WY, Gregg Montesi of MA, and Sue "Daisy" (John) Dolan of MA; and Great Aunt to many; Beloved best friend of 60 years to Joan Goos of CA. Other special friends include Frank and Melissa Jones of NC. These friends were very dear to Joyce.
One of Joyce's favorite things was getting together with family. Family reunions were very special to her and will not be the same without her. Joyce always had a great sense of humor and always had special quotes like "Dinner is cancelled" that she shared with her family. As a child, Joyce shared many special moments with her sister in Tyler Lake, PA. Joyce loved being on the beach, especially Jones Beach. Joyce's wishes were not to have a funeral as she always hated "good-byes" and instead would rather say "see you later".
Her life will be celebrated at a family gathering in Michigan in July, 2015. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Hospice in Joyce's name. Joyce's last moments of her life were documented on CaringBridge.com. You may leave comments or expressions of sympathy to her family on CaringBridge.com
