Obituary of Mary Louise Weatherhead

Niskayuna-Mary Louise Weatherhead, 92, of Niskayuna, New York, passed away on Feb. 19, 2021, surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to John and Marion (Furman) Warych on July 15, 1928. She was raised in Schenectady, New York, and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1946. She was employed at MICA Insulator Company until she married Charles W. Weatherhead, Jr., in 1948. She became a full-time Army wife and raised four children. Mary volunteered at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, New York, for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and attending events at the American Legion Niskayuna Post #1092, where she was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Mary was a huge Red Sox fan and also enjoyed watching the thoroughbreds at the Saratoga Race Course in the summer months. A highlight of Mary’s summer for more than 50 years was to vacation with her family in York Beach, Maine. Mary cherished spending time with her many friends, as well as celebrating her strong faith daily. The absolute center of Mary’s world was her family. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles, and a son, John, as well as two brother-in- laws, Richard and Donald Weatherhead. She is survived by three children: Thomas (Judi) Weatherhead of Fleming Island, Florida; Laura Weatherhead, New York, New York; and Kathleen (Wayne) Willette of Canton, New York. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Nicholas (Jeniece) Weatherhead, Jillian Weatherhead, Tyler Weatherhead, Jordan Willette and Kacie Weatherhead. Other surviving and loved family members include: (Sister-in-Law) Gail Weatherhead, (Niece) Mary (Edward) Kearney, (Great Niece) Deana (Thomas) Kearney Alvy and their sons T.J. and Trevor, (Nephew) William (Susan) Matuszak and their two daughters. A service will be held at 9:00am Tuesday, Feb 23 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church on Union Street, Schenectady, New York, with Father Bob Longobucco officiating. Mary will be buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Kings Road, Schenectady, New York, immediately following the service.
