Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Scotia - Dorothy E Graham passed peacefully on January 7, 2021 at Glendale Nursing Home.
“Dottie” (“Ganny” to her grandkids and great grandkids) was born in Middleton , Nova Scotia, Canada on January 23, 1921 to the late Inglis and Pearl Phinney.
Dottie earned her (RN) registered nursing degree in 1943 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Canada, where she met and was courted by her future husband, Dr George Wm Graham.
Dottie was a “stay at home “ mom devoted to supporting her husband’s career
and raising their three children. She cherished her time spent as a girl scout leader and cub scout den mother as well as joining the volunteer “pink ladies” at Ellis Hospital.
She loved to be in the kitchen cooking to entertain family and friends or out in her gardens using her “green thumb” talents.
In 1963 she was selected by her peers to serve as the president of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Sch’dy Medical Society.
Curling became a bit of a passion for Dottie and she enjoyed joining her husband for many road trip mixed bonspiels in the northeast and Canada. She became so accomplished that she was the “skip” on a Sch’dy team that reached the semi-finals in the 1966 US Women’s National Curling Championships contested at the Sch’dy Curling Club.
Dotties strong faith and her trust in the Lord to show her the right path in life brought her to always have a smile on her face and a calm and endearing way of engaging with all those who came into her life. Dottie was an active member of the Union Presbyterian Church and thru the years served as both a deacon and an elder. When Union Presbyterian chose to discontinue its presence in the community she joined many of her friends in continuing to nurture her faith at the First Reformed Church on Church St. in the Stockade.
Our family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Union Station and the activities and physical therapy teams at Glendale along with Optum Healthcare for the encouragement, compassion and support provided to Dottie and our family.
To cherish her memory, Dottie leaves her son David Graham Sr (Sandi), sister Joan Buckinger (Ed), grandchildren: Dave Graham Jr (Michele), Kristen Corcoran
