When your parents were first married they rented an upstairs flat on McClellan St. My parents, also newly married, rented the downstairs flat. The four of them were compatible neighbors; helping each other move in, paint and sew curtains. Apparently, from the stories, they also enjoyed a weekly Friday night cocktail hour as well.
Your Dad - an avid boater - always tried to introduce mine to the pleasures of being on the water. My Dad - an avid golfer - tried to entice Bert into the pleasures of the game. Neither of our Dads were successful at changing the other. In later years my Mom and Dad would reminisce fondly about being neighbors.
I was employed at Bellevue Hospital in the Housekeeping Dept. in 1972. Your Mom strongly encouraged me to pursue nursing school. She was right and I enjoyed a 47-year nursing career. Everyone at work knew and liked Joan Decker for her friendliness and her quiet, ironic sense of humor.
I like to picture the four of them laughing together once again as they enjoy a happy hour.
