Linda and family, very sorry to hear of Al's passing. Al was my manager and mentor at GE and we stayed close even after his retirement, with somewhat of a role reversal as he became the computer student with I his teacher. Always sharp as a tack and enjoyable to be with, I considered him a good friend even with the generational difference. He will be missed.

Al White managed the team of engineers who did the DLC development project of 1971 to late 1973, working out of Roanoke for most of this time. Al was one of the most pleasant and effective managers that I have ever worked for. Essentially, we developed a special purpose computer, known as a programmable controller and this computer served as the main controller on the Roanoke Steel Mill projects for the 10 years subsequent to the completion of the development in late 1973. I really enjoyed working for him and will never forget him.
