Bill, many years ago, you introduced me, a young German export manager, into the world of American dentistry. I will never forget the warm welcome you arranged for me in this new country and this new industry. It was a honour to know you and to work with you!

How deeply grateful I am that Bill has been my good friend - indeed since September of 1957 and our first day at St. Ignatius when, my name beginning with "P" and his with "R" he was seated right behind me. The only way he was ever, conceivably, "behind" me save that in some of my most difficult moments "he had my back." Bill remained my friend constantly thereafter and though we lived in different cities we managed to always stay in touch. He was generous hearted to me, my kids, my family, and indeed was always like family to me. He will always be so. Friends like Bill remain alive in each of us who love him and so he will in me and I'm sure in his brothers and his children and especially in dear Lynn. He always called me "jovial JP" but he was was the jovial one. He remained a faithful Catholic and so am I and I believe he and I will some day sit under a heavenly tree and talk about our times together and about those we love as we did the last time I was with him in August of 2013. I will always be his friend.

3. He's a charismatic joke teller and creative story teller.
4. He has exquisite taste in jewelry and scarves.
5. He has amazing taste in music and finds artists and songs before they become huge hits.
6. He has the best laugh.
7. He loves cartoons and is a kid at heart.
8. He leads by example and has earned the respect of everyone around him. I've been in the Capital Region long enough to meet people who know my Dad and always have positive things to say.
9. He's an optimist.
10. He's always willing to help people.
11. He's a gifted orator.
12. He's a brilliant writer.
13. He makes a mean Gin & Tonic.
14. He's an excellent teacher (officially and unofficially).
15. He can make work fun - whether it's in an office setting or during Saturday chore mornings as a kid.
16. He loves nature and has instilled the love of bird watching in all of us.
17. He loves camping and taught us the importance of simple pleasures.
18. He loves games -- board games, card games, trivia games and lawn games like Bocce. We always look forward to game nights!
19. He loves trains and has instilled a love of trains in all of us.
20. He loves holidays and always goes the extra mile to make them special…food coloring in our 7-Up for St. Patty's Day and carnation corsages for Christmas and plastic bunnies for Easter and tons of candy for Halloween to name a few.
21. He has the patience of a saint.
22. He encourages us to spread our wings while keeping our roots.
23. He loves a good camp fire and has joined us for our Blue Mountain Lake trips which remind me of our great Wisconsin trips growing up.
24. Our Grandpa is witty and funny and has a great smile and the same sense of humor that we do.
25. Our Grandpa takes care of us.

57. Bill gave me Jennifer Regan.
58. My dad has always set the best example and his integrity has become my moral compass.
59. My dad's love of music is contagious and music has become a big part of my life. I have fond memories of sitting in our Oldsmobile listening to the radio. We always waited for the song to finish even if we were already in the driveway.
60. My dad installed the importance of travel into me at a very young age. The older I get, I realize that this was not the case in many families. I have many great memories of family road trips, camping trips and European adventures. The license plate game and contest to see all 50 states are alive and well in our family.
61. My dad never counted money on vacation (even though I later learned that money was tight).
62. My dad went along with the North Dakota trip even though I knew he thought I was nuts.
63. My dad has helped me throughout my career from convincing me to study Latin in H.S. and major in English in college to figuring out how to finance my MBA and then countless resume revisions and strategy sessions since grad school.
64. My dad selflessly agreed to drive cross country with me and the kids.
65. My dad was never too busy to help us with our homework.
66. My dad walks the walk and talks the talk. There was never a "Do as I say not as I do" attitude in our house.
67. My dad taught us the importance of faith and ministry at an early age and his devotion and service to the parish continue to set an example.
68. Even though he was strict, my Dad was the "fun Dad" growing up and my friends wanted to hang at my house.
69. Even today, my friends view my Dad as the "fun Dad' and have all remarked about how he was the life of the party at our wedding this year.
70. My Dad (and Mom) value education and have consistently prioritized this and sacrificed for this financially so we could all get an excellent education.

I had the privilege to work with Bill when he first came to CMP industries in the late 1980s. No one could match him as a mentor, teacher, coach, and supporter. He shaped who I am in the business world today. There will always be a special place in my heart for this 'true gentleman'. Keeping you all close in thought and prayer today and in the days to come.

It was an honor to work with Bill at Empire State College. His gentle kindness helped lead faculty members through some difficult decisions and gave his students exceptional learning experiences. I think of him with a smile and great appreciation every time I open the documents he wrote to help non-business faculty better serve business students. Thank you for sharing him with us. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
