Obituary of Daniel J. Johnson

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On September 30th we lost a true free spirit when Dan (DJ) passed away peacefully at the home of his family, surrounded by those he loved, following a long illness.

Born in Rome, NY, Dan grew up in Niskayuna, the youngest of 4 children.  Following his graduation from Niskayuna High School in 1983, Dan lived in Vermont, Colorado and the Florida Keys where he managed vacation resorts.
Upon settling in Vermont, Dan married his wife Kelly and raised their beautiful daughter Elliot Jay.   In Vermont, Dan started and ran a successful contracting business for many years.  He returned to Niskayuna to be closer to his family and worked as a property manager in the Capital Region for the last 10 years.

Time spent with his beloved family and friends were his greatest joys, especially when outside on the family boat.
Dan was never one to follow the crowd, instead choosing to make his own path and dance to the beat of his own drum, principles he proudly carried with him right up until his untimely passing.
Dan will be remembered as an easy going, loyal friend, who always made people smile, gladly gave and received hugs, a kiss, or shared a dance with you.  He always wanted those around him to feel loved, happy and to just relax and enjoy their time together.  He was blessed with an incredibly huge heart, genuine smile, a child’s spirit and a boisterous, infectious laugh, all of which will be sincerely missed by those that were fortunate enough to know him.
He left this earth far too soon, but during his time here, he offered priceless life lessons about having fun, loving those around him, and living life to the fullest, right up to its last moment.

Survivors include his daughter, Elliot Johnson of Burlington, Vt., parents, William and Karen Johnson of Niskayuna; his sister, Renee Johnson and husband, David Eisner, of Denver, Colo.; his brother, William Johnson Jr. of Naples, Fla. nieces, Sarah Krantz, Isabelle and Madeleine Johnson; and, a nephew, Max Eisner. He was predeceased by his older brother Robert (RJ) Johnson; grandparents, Ruth Brand of Rome, N.Y. and Marion and George O'Connell of Utica, N.Y.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, from 5-7pm at The Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, Schenectady 12309, and then on Saturday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 2216 Rosa Road, Schenectady, 12309, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.  Family & friends are invited.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made in Dan's name to Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church www.stkateriparish.org or to Peaceful Acres Horses www.peacefulacreshorses.com.
