Obituary of Gloria Bombardi Fiore

Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Schenectady: Gloria (Bombardi) Fiore, of Schenectady, formerly of Oakdale, NY, was called to the Lord on August 13, 2018 at home with her daughter by her side.

Gloria was born in Flushing, and grew up in Corona, Queens, the youngest of five children, to the late Luigi and Mary (Tassi) Bombardi.  She and her beloved husband of 34 years, Roy F. Fiore, who passed in 1984, lived in Oakdale (Long Island) before Gloria moved to Schenectady 25 years ago to be near her daughter.

As a teenager, she was given a second-hand pair of ice skates and became an accomplished self-taught figure skater.  She was later selected to perform in ice shows at the arena at the former World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.  A graduate of Newtown High School in Elmhurst, Queens, Gloria was a hospital volunteer and worked as a teacher aid in several schools on Long Island. She was devoted to God and to her family. Throughout the years, she was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. A devoted prayer warrior, she prayed 3 hours each day as well as the Rosary every day for nearly 70 years.  She was a volunteer cleaner at the Dominican Retreat and Conference Center for many years, served on the St. Paul’s cleaning crew, and was a member of the Spirit of Love and Maranatha prayer groups for over 25 years.  She enjoyed dancing, playing tennis, the beach and cheering for her beloved Yankees.

She leaves her loving daughter, Jacqueline Fiore of Schenectady, beloved brother Aldo Bombardi, and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by sisters Hilda Sniffin and Dena Campbell, brother Bruno Bombardi, brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Nathaniel Sniffin, John Campbell, Katherine Bombardi, Eugenie Bombardi, Joseph Fiore, Catherine Fiore, and nephews Robert Bombardi and Gregory Fiore.

Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital, the Daughters of Sarah rehabilitation facility, the Eddy Visiting nurses, their home aids, occupational & physical therapists, and Dr. John Pezzulo for all the wonderful caring help and support they provided to Gloria.
