Obituary of Barbara J. Grasier
Barbara J. Grasier, of Glen Eddy Senior Apartments, Niskayuna, passed away at Ellis Hospital July 11, 2018 after a long struggle with failing health. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Roger W. Grasier, her son Robert E, (Yuko) Grasier of Palos Verdes, CA, her son Glen W. (Nesdelia) Grasier of Charlotte, NC, and her granddaughter, Megumi Grasier, who is entering her fourth year at San Jose State, CA.
Barbara was born in Washington, DC, and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School where she greatly enjoyed playing saxophone in the marching band. A highlight of her band experience was playing in a presidential inauguration parade. She received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Penn State University where her warm smile at a mutual friend on a cold, wintry day caught the attention of her now husband. While at Penn State, she enjoyed playing bassoon in the Penn State Concert Blue Band.
Barbara and her husband lived for eight years in King of Prussia, PA, before moving to Niskayuna where her husband joined the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Her two sons attended the Niskayuna School System and graduated from Niskayuna High School. Barbara worked at Niskayuna High School as a secretary, first in the English Department, and later in the Guidance Department. She later worked in the Schenectady School System as a secretary.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 19th from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm, at Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St. (at McClellan St.). Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Road, Colonie, NY.
