Obituary of Bernard K. Allanson

Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Schenectady-Bernard K. Allanson, 82, passed away at the Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital on Thursday, June 14, 2018 after a long illness.

Born in Ithaca, NY, the son of Clifford A. Allanson and E. Estelle Allanson, Bern attended NYS School of Industrial Labor Relations at Cornell University and Albany Law School.  He also served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Wasp (CVS-18).  Bern began his career as a lobbyist for the NYS Council of Retail Merchants.  He went on to work for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and then became the president of a political action committee in Pennsylvania, PEG.

During his retirement, Bern volunteered thousands of hours to the local organizations he cared for including the Friends of the Schenectady Public Library, the Landis Arboretum, and the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society, serving as their interim director. However, his very favorite retirement activity was driving a school bus for the Niskayuna School District, where his humor and likeness to Saint Nick left him beloved by the children he served.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet Allanson Valsing Kline of Schenectady; three grandchildren, Rachel Valsing (C. Ryan Patterson), Agnes Kline, and Estelle Kline; two great grandsons, Aiden Coldsmith and Banner Patterson; and his brother, Lars Allanson (Linda Dorwaldt Allanson) of Delmar, New York; and several nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Jennings Allanson and his son, Lars E. Allanson.  He will be dearly missed by all.

Calling hours Monday, June 18, from 5 to 7 pm and a service at 7pm at the Jones Funeral Home in Schenectady.  Interment, Bethlehem Cemetery.
