Obituary of Adrian C. Gray

Schenectady-Rev. Adrian C. Gray Sr. 93, son of Clarence and Ada (Sanderson) Gray, passed away on Wednesday, May 16th surrounded by his loving family. 
 
 He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years Blanche Gray, his children, Adrian (Doreen) Gray of Richmond VA, Hugh (Martha) Gray of Aurora OH, Matthew (Holly) Gray of Schenectady and Nancy Blair of Clifton Park, his grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Cioto, Sarah Gray, Jeremy Gray, Erin Gray Katie (Kris) Kurjiaka, Natalie Shoemaker, Mackenzie Blair and Zoe Blair.  He is also survived by five great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Brooksby Gray, his daughter, Jolie Gray and his grandson Robert Gray.
 
 
He was born and raised in the Town of Palatine and graduated from Fort Plain Central School in 1942. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Music from the Saint Louis Institute of Music and his Master’s degree in Divinity from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  He retired as a Reformed Church in America minister in 1992 from the Mont Pleasant Reformed Church where he had been minister since 1969.  Prior to that he had served at the Reformed Church of the Thousand Islands in Alexandria Bay for nine years where he was ordained in 1960.
 
He was the Schenectady County Protestant chaplain serving at Glendale Nursing Home.  He was also former President of the Inter-Faith Community of Schenectady, former President of the Mont Pleasant branch of the YMCA board of directors, former Chairman of the Urban Scouting Emphasis Committee of the Boy Scouts of America and member of the Schenectady Inter City Ministry.  He received the Order of the Arrow which is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America after many years of service.  He loved Camp Fowler in Speculator NY and volunteered at the church camp for many years.
He was a member of the American Legion in Niskayuna.  He was raised to the degree of Master Mason on March 27, 1956 and was a member for over 60 years of the Fort Plain Lodge #433 and the St. George’s Chapter #157 of the Free Masons.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Camp Fowler or the First Reformed Church of Scotia.
 
Calling hours will be Saturday May 19th, 2018 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street, Schenectady,
 
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 10 AM at The First Reformed Church of Scotia.
