Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Schenectady-Richard Rheingold, 66, of Elmer Avenue in Schenectady left his earthly body to be with Jesus on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. He died of mantle cell lymphoma which he battled for two years. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 2, 1943 in Albany, NY to the late Moe and Jane Rheingold. He was a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey High School in Albany, class of 1961; and Empire State College, with an Associate degree in Graphic Arts. He was with the United States Air Force from 1962-1966 serving at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. He ran for City council with nine other candidates in 2006, thoroughly enjoying the people he met. He was passionate about local issues, including opposition to the Union St. Bed and Breakfast. He was instrumental in getting Rt. 5 through Schenectady designated as part of the Yellowstone Trail and included in planning for development grants. He is past president and vice president of the Eastern Avenue Neighborhood Association. He loved classic cars, antiques, and his membership in Christian Motorcyclists of America. He also relished his honorary membership in the Canandaigua Academy class of 1966, enjoying their yearly get-togethers. He helped obtain scenic byway status for a portion of Rt. 20, serving as vice-president of the Rt. 20 Assoc. because of his fond memories of riding on the route which extends across country from Boston to Washington State. He promoted it on his Rt. 20 Yahoo group and his website. His family was greatly benefitted by his sacrificial, loyal nature which is continuing to yield further great blessings. His life continues to be a testimony to the greatness of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Throughout his career, he worked in the printing field, first in a commercial print shop in North Carolina, then with the New York State Senate, as offset prep technician, retiring in 2005. Richard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Bartnikowski Rheingold, his son Timothy and wife Tracey of Latham, and his daughter, Christina of Clifton Park, his brother Michael of Albany as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces. His grandchildren are Tessa and Teddy Rheingold of Latham, NY., whom he treasured. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street (at McClellan St.) in Schenectady on Sunday from 4-6 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Grace Fellowship Church, 20 Delatour Rd., Latham, NY Burial will be private with military honors at the Gerald B.H.
