Schenectady- Lorraine P. Silva, 80, of Central Parkway, passed away Thursday , July 9, 2009, at Ellis Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Lorraine was born in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Michael and Filomena Palmisano and raised in Cambridge, Mass., where she met her husband to be. She was a graduate of Simmons College and trained as a schoolteacher. In 1955 they relocated to Schenectady as a result of Dan's employment at General Electric.
She taught nursery school for 25 years at Trinity United Methodist Church. They were long and devout members of the church, which is now known as Faith United Methodist Church. Lorraine was one of the world's greatest Yankees fans.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Daniel R. Silva, of Schenectady; her son, Mark Daniel Silva, and his wife, Nina Sichel of Alexandria, VA; her daughter in-law, Eileen Silva of Schenectady. Grandchildren, Lisa Silva Marsh and her husband Philip of Jacksonville, FL., Dylan Silva of Alexandria, VA, Christopher Silva and his wife Leslie of Stamford, CT., and Gregory Silva of Schenectady. 1 great-grandson, Noah Michael Silva Marsh of Jacksonville, FL. Her son, Steven Michael Silva, passed away in 1993.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, at 10 AM at Faith United Methodist Church, corner of Eastern and Brandywine Avenues, Schenectady. Calling hours will be Monday from 5pm to 7pm at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., (at McClellan St.), Schenectady. Burial will be in Park View Cemetery next to her son Steven.
